BUBO Fantasy Rarity League Rules
- Predict 15 species
from the list of rarities, which you think will occur during 2000.
- You only have a maximum of £4500
to spend.
- Every time one of your
chosen species is sighted in Britain in 2000 then you
will get one point. So, for example, 4 Pied
Wheatears in the year would give you 4 points. Each
species will only get a maximum of 15 points -
even if there's an influx.
- The person with the most
points at the end of the year is the winner.
- It will include all birds
seen in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Isle
of Man and the Channel Islands.
- The list of species seen
will be taken each month from Birding World. Only
definite sightings will be counted - no probables or
possibles, Sightings listed as 'reported' will be pended
until rarities committees decisions are announced.
- In the event of a tie at the
end of the year, the person who has predicted the most
species (rather than individuals) will be declared
the winner.
- In the event of a further
tie, the person who predicted the rarest species
will be the winner.
- Only individuals which arrived
during 2000 will be allowed. For Wilson's Petrel, only
sightings from land will be eligible for points (i.e.
birds seen from pelagics do not count).
- Only one list per person
is allowed.
- To keep the element of surprise,
the following individuals will not be included if
they are still present or return to their traditional
sites:
- Pied-billed
Grebe, Rostellen, County Cork
- Black Duck,
Barrow, County Kerry
- Canvasback in
Welney or Abberton area
- Black-winged
Stilt in Norfolk
- Collared
Pratincole in Norfolk
- Spanish Sparrow
in Cumbria
- Short-toed
Treecreeper in Channel Islands.
- To take part, pass your list
to any BUBO member, fill out the entry
form or send an e-mail
to mike@bubo.org with your selection and personal
details. Late entries will be allowed, but will only
start scoring points from the month following the date
the entry is received.
- The decision of the BUBO
Fantasy Rarity Committee is final!
