Little Tinamou Crypturellus soui

Heard only - single at Mount St Benedict on 1/11, two there on 3/11 and five from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 (including one very close bird at dusk at Lalaja Trace, which still couldn't be seen).

Five at Trincity Pools on 3/11.

Seen from Tobago only. On 6/11 a trip to Little Tobago Island produced at least 300. Arriving at the seabird cliffs on the island at about 11am only two or three birds were present, but numbers quickly built up during the afternoon as they returned to the cliffs, giving views down to just a few metres range! Seven were seen at Blue Waters on 8/11 and about 40 from Flagstaff Hill (looking towards St Giles Islands) on 9/11.

Brown Booby Sula leucogaster

Brown Booby

One flew south along the north-eastern Trinidad coast on 1/11 and was the only Trinidad sighting. On Tobago about twenty were seen on Little Tobago Island on 6/11 (including two pairs with very recently fledged young) and one was at Blue Waters on 8/11.

Brown Pelican Pelecanus occidentalis

Five were seen along the north-eastern Trinidad coast on 1/11 and eighty were at Waterloo on 2/11. On Tobago up to four seen on several occasions at Blue Waters.

Magnificent Frigatebird Fregata magnificens

Magnificent Frigatebird

Two at Mount St Benedict on 30/10 and 31/10, three off Manzanilla Beach on 31/10 and about 40 off the coast near Grande Riviere on 1/11. Larger numbers off Tobago with about 150 from Little Tobago Island on 6/11 and 100 from Flagstaff Hill on 9/11, as well as up to 20 from Blue Waters (8/11).

Pinnated Bittern Botaurus pinnatus

A single at very close range at Nariva Swamp on 31/10.

Great Blue Heron Ardea herodias

One at Waterloo on 2/11 and two at Buccoo Marsh, Tobago on 5/11.

Great White Egret Egretta alba

Six at Waterloo on 2/11 followed by singles at Buccoo Marsh on both 5/11 and 9/11.

Snowy Egret Egretta thula

About 50 were at Caroni Rice Fields on 2/11 with a similar number at Waterloo the same day and an impressive 800 coming into roost at Caroni Swamp at dusk. The only other sighting was of a single at Trincity Pools on 3/11.

Little Blue Heron Egretta caerulea

After five at Waterloo on 2/11 about 100 were seen at dusk the same day at Caroni Swamp. On Tobago one was seen at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11.

Tricolored Heron Egretta tricolor

Two at Nariva Swamp on 31/10, 200 roosting in the Caroni Swamp at dusk on 2/11 and two at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11.

Cattle Egret Bubulcus ibis

150 at Nariva Swamp on 2/11 and 10 at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11 were the largest single site counts, but flocks were also seen from the roads in Trinidad on at least 30/10 and 1/11.

Striated Heron Butorides striatus

Only seen on Trinidad with 12 at Nariva Swamp on 31/10 and 15 at Pointe-a-Pierre on 2/11.

Green Heron Butorides virescens

Only seen on Tobago with three at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11.

Black-crowned Night Heron Nycticorax nycticorax

Two at Waterloo on 2/11.

Yellow-crowned Night Heron Nyctanassa violacea

Two at Caroni Swamp on 2/11, one on a small island off Little Tobago Island on 6/11 and one at Buccoo Marsh on 9/11.

Scarlet Ibis Eudocimus ruber

A single in flight at Waterloo on 2/11 was followed by a spectacular 1500 coming in to roost in the Caroni Swamp later the same day.

Black-bellied Whistling Duck Dendrocygna autumnalis

After six at Nariva Swamp on 31/10, 21 were at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11 with three there on the 9/11.

White-cheeked Pintail Anas bahamensis

Two were seen at Buccoo Marsh, Tobago on 5/11 with four at the same site on 9/11.

Blue-winged Teal Anas discors

Seen on Tobago only (although a small flock of unidentified ducks in flight at Caroni Swamp were probably this species). 18 at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11 and 22 there on 9/11.

Black Vulture Coragyps atratus

Common on Trinidad (none on Tobago) with sightings from Mount St Benedict (max of 60 on 4/11), Heights of Aripo (100 on 31/10), Nariva Swamp, Grande Riviere, Agriculture Research Station (where the largest count - 200 on 3/11 - was recorded) and Asa Wright Nature Centre.

Turkey Vulture Cathartes aura

Also common on Trinidad and not seen on Tobago, but usually in smaller numbers than Black Vulture. Recorded from Mount St Benedict (max of 20 on 31/10), Nariva Swamp, Grande Riviere, Agriculture Research Station (again the site with the largest count - 50 on 3/11) and Asa Wright Nature Centre.

Osprey Pandion haliaetus

Singles at Nariva Swamp (31/10) and Grande Riviere (1/11) and two at Mount St Benedict (1/11) were followed by about 20 on 2/11: eight at Waterloo, eight at Pointe-a-Pierre and four at the Caroni Swamp. On Tobago a single flew over Blue Waters on 9/11.

Pearl Kite Gampsonyx swainsonii

One was seen perched on a wire beside the road near the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11.

White Hawk Leucopternis albicollis

Two were seen at Mount St Benedict on 31/10, with one at Grande Riviere on 1/11 and another from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11.

Common Black Hawk Buteogallus anthracinus

One was seen at Mount St Benedict on 31/10, one at Grande Riviere on 1/11, one perched in mangroves in the Caroni Swamp on 2/11 and three from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11. Also daily sightings at Asa Wright Nature Centre with a max of three on 12/11.

Savanna Hawk Buteogallus meridionalis

Five were seen at Nariva Swamp on 31/10, with five at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11 and one from the road nearby the same day.

Grey Hawk Asturina plagiata

Two were seen at Mount St Benedict on 31/10 with one perched at the Heights of Aripo the next day, and two at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 11/11.

Broad-winged Hawk Buteo platypterus

Presumably migrant individuals were seen on a few occasions at Mount St Benedict with a max of two on 31/10. Of the Tobago residents, singles were seen at Blue Waters on 5/11 and 6/11 with three from Flagstaff Hill on 9/11.

Short-tailed Hawk Buteo brachyurus

Up to two seen regularly at Mount St Benedict with one also at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 11/11.

Zone-tailed Hawk Buteo albonotatus

One was seen at Mount St Benedict on 30/10 and 2/11 and another one was at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 11/11.

Yellow-headed Caracara Milvago chimachima

Five seen at Nariva Swamp on 31/10.

Merlin Falco columbarius

At least two at Nariva Swamp on 31/10 and one at Mount St Benedict on 1/11 and 3/11, with one also at Caroni Swamp on 2/11 and, on Tobago, one over Blue Waters on 9/11.

Peregrine Falco peregrinus

One was at Mount St Benedict on 3/11, one at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11 and one was perched on the cliff at the main seabird watchpoint on Little Tobago Island on 6/11.

Rufous-vented Chachalaca Ortalis ruficauda

Only present on Tobago. The maximum count was of 13 at Blue Waters on 5/11, with eight from the Roxborough - Bloody Bay Road on 7/11 and eight also on the Roxborough Valley Branch Road on 8/11. Also on 8/11 one was seen on the Branch 2 Trace and four on the Gilpin Trace.

Trinidad Piping-guan Pipile pipile

A pair were seen at a watchpoint near Grande Riviere in the north-east of Trinidad on 1/11. They apparently feed here regularly just after dawn. We arrived at dawn (approximately 6am) but it took two hours before the pair were found feeding in a tree. Excellent views were then had from directly below the birds. Access to the site is best arranged through Gerard Ramsawak at the Pax Guest House.

Grey-necked Wood Rail Aramides cajanea

One juvenile was seen at Pointe-a-Pierre Wildfowl Reserve on 2/11. A pair had just raised four young here, very close to the visitor centre.

American Purple Gallinule Porphyrio martinicus

12 at Nariva Swamp on 31/10, a single at Pointe-a-Pierre on 2/11 and another at Trincity Pools on 3/11.

Azure Gallinule Porphyrio flavirostris

One was seen at Nariva Swamp on 31/10.

Moorhen Gallinula chloropus

Four at Pointe-a-Pierre on 2/11 and, on Tobago, one at Buccoo Marsh on 9/11

Southern Lapwing Vanellus chilensis

Two at Nariva Swamp on 2/11, six at Waterloo and two at Pointe-a-Pierre (both on 2/11) and eight at the Agriculture Research Station (3/11). Large numbers were seen on Tobago at Buccoo Marsh, with 20 on 5/11 and 45 there on 9/11.

Grey Plover Pluvialis squatarola

One was at the mouth of the Nariva river on 31/10.

Semipalmated Plover Charadrius semipalmatus

Five at the mouth of the Nariva river on 31/10 and 15 at Waterloo on 2/11.

Black-necked Stilt Himantopus mexicanus

Four were seen at the Caroni Rice Fields on 2/11 and five were at Trincity Pools on 5/11.

Wattled Jacana Jacana jacana

Ten were seen at Nariva Swamp on 31/10, ten at Pointe-a-Pierre on 2/11, eight at Trincity Pools on 5/11. On Tobago, ten at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11 with eight there on 9/11.

Greater Yellowlegs Tringa melanoleuca

The only sighting on Trinidad was of two were at Trincity Pools on 3/11. On Tobago five were at Buccoo Marsh on both 5/11 and 9/11.

Lesser Yellowlegs Tringa flavipes

On Trinidad, about 20 were at Caroni Rice Fields on 2/11 and 12 at Trincity Pools on 3/11. On Tobago nine were at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11 with four there on 9/11.

Solitary Sandpiper Tringa solitaria

One was seen at a muddy pool on 3/11 at the Agriculture Research Station.

Willet Catoptrophorus semipalmatus

Common at Waterloo with about 50 on 2/11 and two in the Caroni Swamp later the same day.

Spotted Sandpiper Tringa macularia

Two at Grande Riviere on 1/11, three at Waterloo, four at Pointe-a-Pierre and 40 in the Caroni Swamp (all 2/11) and three at Trincity Pools on 3/11 were the Trinidad sightings. On Tobago two at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11.

Whimbrel Numenius phaeopus

One at Nariva Swamp on 31/10, about 50 at Waterloo on 2/11 with two in the Caroni Swamp later the same day.

Marbled Godwit Limosa fedoa

Two were seen at Waterloo on 2/11.

Turnstone Arenaria interpres

Two at Nariva Swamp on 31/10, 40 at Waterloo on 2/11. Seen regularly at Blue Waters on Tobago with a max of 15 on 6/11

Sanderling Calidris alba

Five at Manzanilla Beach on 31/10.

Western Sandpiper Calidris mauri

One was seen on the road at very close range at Nariva Swamp on 31/10 and one as at Buccoo Marsh, Tobago on 5/11.

Least Sandpiper Calidris minutilla

One was seen at a muddy pool on 3/11 at the Agriculture Research Station.

Pectoral Sandpiper Calidris melanotos

Only seen on Tobago where two were at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11 with one there on 9/11.

Short-billed Dowitcher Limnodromus griseus

Two at Buccoo Marsh, Tobago, on 5/11, was the only definite sighting, although a dowitcher at Caroni Rice Fields, Trinidad, on 2/11, was most likely also this species.

Laughing Gull Larus atricilla

About 120 were seen at Waterloo on 2/11.

Royal Tern Sterna maxima

One distant bird was seen at Waterloo on 2/11 and two were seen in a bay on the east side of Tobago on 5/11.

About ten were seen at the Caroni Swamp on 2/11 and one at BM on 5/11.

Ruddy Ground-dove Columbina talpacoti

Common. Seen at Mount St Benedict, Heights of Aripo (where the highest count was recorded, 20 on 31/10), Nariva Swamp, Agriculture Research Station, Blanchisseuse Road, Buccoo Marsh and Blue Waters.

White-tipped Dove Leptotila verreauxi

One at Pointe-a-Pierre on 2/11, one at Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11, two at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11 and two at Blue Waters on 5/11.

Grey-fronted Dove Leptotila rufaxilla

The only definite sightings were of one at the feeders at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and two there the following day.

Red-bellied Macaw Ara manilata

About six were seen near dusk at their pre-roost assemblage at Nariva Swamp on 31/10.

Green-rumped Parrotlet Forpus passerinus

Ten were seen at Pointe-a-Pierre on 2/11.

Lilac-tailed Parrotlet Touit batavica

Flocks were heard in flight on several occasions at Mount St Benedict, although not always seen! About 60 were recorded there on 30/10 and 50 on 1/11. At Asa Wright Nature Centre two were seen from the veranda on 10/11 and 12 there on 11/11.

Blue-headed Parrot Pionus menstruus

12 seen at the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11.

Orange-winged Parrot Amazona amazonica

Common on both islands. Seen on several days at Mount St Benedict with at least 100 on both 30/10 and 31/10, and 15 at Grande Riviere on 1/11. At Asa Wright Nature Centre the only sighting was of two on 10/11. On Tobago 40 at Gilpin Trace on 7/11 was the maximum, with several other sightings from the forested interior.

Squirrel Cuckoo Piaya cayana

One was seen at Grande Riviere on 1/11.

Striped Cuckoo Tapera naevia

One was seen, having initially been picked up on call, at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11.

Smooth-billed Ani Crotophaga ani

Fairly widespread on Trinidad with a max of 150 at Nariva Swamp on 31/10. Sightings on Tobago were restricted to three at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11 and six at Flagstaff Hill on 9/11.

Ferruginous Pygmy-owl Glaucidium brasilianum

One was heard calling at Mount St Benedict on 1/11.

Short-tailed Nighthawk Lurocalis semitorquatus

Two were seen at Asa Wright Nature Centre, hunting insects over the valley at dusk on 11/11.

Common Potoo Nyctibius jamaicensis

One bird roosting in the mangroves at Caroni Swamp on 2/11.

Oilbird Steatornis caripensis

Definitely one of the highlights of the trip. About 30 were seen in their cave at Asa Wright Nature Centre mid-morning of 11/11. Excellent views were had in torchlight. The birds were surprisingly active, also being heard during daylight on each of my days at Asa Wright Nature Centre.

Short-tailed Swift Chaetura brachyura

The commonest small swift. About 30 was the max at Mount St Benedict (30/10), 100 at Grande Riviere (1/11), 80 at Blanchisseuse Road (4/11) and 100 at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11. The only Tobago sighting was of 30 on Little Tobago Island on 6/11.

Band-rumped Swift Chaetura spinicauda

It proved very difficult to distinguish this species from Grey-rumped Swift. Two were definitely Band-rumped at Mount St Benedict on 31/10 and two were seen at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and 11/11.

Grey-rumped Swift Chaetura cinereiventris

The only definite sighting was of about 20 at Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11.

Lesser Swallow-tailed Swift Panyptila cayennensis

Two were seen at Grande Riviere on 1/11 and two at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and 11/11. Apparently these are normally difficult to see, with Mount St Benedict typically being the most reliable site.

Fork-tailed Palm Swift

Five seen in Tunapuna on 31/10 and three at Agriculture Research Station on 3/11.

Rufous-breasted Hermit Glaucis hirsuta

Fairly common, with sightings on Trinidad at Mount St Benedict (one on 30/10), Grande Riviere (one on 1/11), Blanchisseuse Road (three on 4/11) and Asa Wright Nature Centre (max of two on 12/11). On Tobago two were seen on the Roxborough Valley Branch Road on 8/11 and two also on the Branch 2 Trace the same day.

Green Hermit Phaethornis guy

One was seen at Mount St Benedict on 30/10 and 1/11, and one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11.

Little Hermit Phaethornis longuemareus

After one seen briefly on 1/11 at Grande Riviere, the only other sighting was of one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 12/11.

White-necked Jacobin Florisuga mellivora

Seen only at Asa Wright Nature Centre, where two were at the feeders on both 10/11 and 11/11.

Tufted Coquette Lophornis ornatus

Seen on Mount St Benedict, with a pair on the 30/10 and 2/11, and at Asa Wright Nature Centre with a female on 10/11 and 12/11.

Blue-chinned Sapphire Chlorestes notatus

One on 31/10 at Mount St Benedict and one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and 11/11.

White-chested Emerald Amazilia chionopectus

One sighting at Mount St Benedict on 3/11, but common at Asa Wright Nature Centre with at least six on 10/11.

Copper-rumped Hummingbird Amazilia tobaci

The most regular hummingbird. Three was the maximum recorded at Mount St Benedict (on both 30/10 and 31/10), four were seen at the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and two were at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11. On Tobago equally common, being seen at Blue Waters (two on 5/11 and one on 9/11), Branch 2 (four on 8/11) and Flagstaff Hill (one on 9/11).

Long-billed Starthroat Heliomaster longirostris

One was seen on four occasions at Mount St Benedict.

White-tailed Sabrewing Campylopterus ensipennis

Fantastic views were had of one on the Gilpin Trace on Tobago on 7/11, with another calling nearby. A different two were seen there the following day.

Violaceous Trogon Trogon violaceus

Four at Grande Riviere on 1/11 were the only confirmed sightings, although a trogon that was either Violaceous or White-tailed was seen from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and a Violaceous was heard at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11.

Collared Trogon Trogon collaris

One was seen at very close range on the Gilpin Trace on 7/11.

Blue-crowned Motmot Momotus momota

Common and approachable on Tobago with two seen at Blue Waters on 6/11, six on Little Tobago Island on 6/11, one on the Roxborough Valley Branch Road on 8/11, one on the Branch 2 Trace on 8/11 and another at Blue Waters on 9/11 which spent the night roosting on top of the light on my balcony! On Trinidad two were seen at the Asa Wright Nature Centre feeders on 10/11.

Belted Kingfisher Megaceryle alcyon

One was seen in flight at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11.

Green Kingfisher Chloroceryle americana

One at Grande Riviere on 1/11 and one at Waterloo on 2/11.

American Pygmy Kingfisher Chloroceryle aenea

One seen very briefly in flight as it flew between the mangroves in the Caroni Swamp on 2/11.

One was seen at the feeders at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11.

Two were seen from the veranda of Pax Guest House at Mount St Benedict on 31/10, one was at Grande Riviere on 1/11 and one was seen at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and 12/11.

Singles seen at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and 11/11.

Streaked Xenops Xenops rutilans

Four were seen at Mount St Benedict on 4/11, two on the Blanchisseuse Road also on 4/11 and one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11.

Plain-brown Woodcreeper Dendrocincla fuliginosa

Singles seen on 11/11 and 12/11 at Asa Wright Nature Centre.

Buff-throated Woodcreeper Xiphorhynchus guttatus

One at Blue Waters on 5/11, one at Gilpin Trace on 7/11 and one on 10/11 and 11/11 at Asa Wright Nature Centre.

Only seen at Asa Wright Nature Centre with two on 10/11 and three on 12/11.

Barred Antshrike Thamnophilus doliatus

Fairly common. One at Grande Riviere on 1/11, one on the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 11/11 were the Trinidad sightings. On Tobago seen at Buccoo Marsh (one on 5/11), from the Roxborough to Bloody Bay Road (four on 7/11), Branch 2 Trace (four on 8/11) and Blue Waters (one on 9/11).

Plain Antvireo Dysithamnus mentalis

One was seen at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11.

White-flanked Antwren Myrmotherula axillaris

Only on Trinidad where two were seen at Mount St Benedict on 4/11 with four on the Blanchisseuse Road also that day and up to two were seen daily at Asa Wright Nature Centre from 10/11 to 12/11.

White-fringed Antwren Formicivora grisea

Only on Tobago where one was seen at Blue Waters on 5/11 and 9/11, and two were on the Branch 2 Trace on 8/11.

One was seen walking across a track at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 12/11.

The commonest flycatcher identified. After one on 3/11 at the Agriculture Research Station (the only Trinidad sighting), one was seen at Blue Waters on 5/11, one on Little Tobago Island on 6/11, three on the Branch 2 Trace on 8/11 and two at Flagstaff Hill on 9/11.

Ochre-bellied Flycatcher Mionectes oleagineus

One on 4/11 from the Blanchisseuse Road and two at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11.

Slaty-capped Flycatcher Leptopogon superciliaris

The only sighting was of one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 12/11.

Yellow-olive Flycatcher Tolmomyias sulphurescens

Single sightings on 10/11 and 11/11 at Asa Wright Nature Centre.

One on the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 was typically perched very high on a prominent perch and showing distinctive fluffed-out flanks.

Three seen at Nariva Swamp on 31/1, one at the Caroni Rice Fields on 2/11 and three at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11.

White-headed Marsh-tyrant Arundinicola leucocephala

One was seen from the road near Valencia on 31/10 and ten were at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11.

Brown-crested Flycatcher Myiarchus tyrannulus

A single bird was at Blue Waters on 9/11.

Great Kiskadee Pitangus sulphuratus

Common on Trinidad but not seen on Tobago. Recorded from Mount St Benedict (max of six on 30/10), Heights of Aripo (ten on 31/10), Nariva Swamp (40 on 31/10), Grande Riviere (two on 1/11), the Agriculture Research Station (ten on 3/11) and Asa Wright Nature Centre (four on 10/11).

Boat-billed Flycatcher Megarynchus pitangua

One was seen at Mount St Benedict on 31/10, two at Grande Riviere on 1/11, two on the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and 11/11.

Streaked Flycatcher Myiodynastes maculatus

One was seen on the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11.

Tropical Kingbird Tyrannus melancholicus

Common on both islands. Sightings were recorded from Mount St Benedict, Heights of Aripo, Grande Riviere, the Agriculture Research Station (where the peak count was recorded - 25 on 3/11) and Asa Wright Nature Centre on Trinidad. On Tobago, seen at Buccoo Marsh, the Roxborough to Bloody Bay Road, Roxborough Valley Branch Road and the Branch 2 Trace.

Grey Kingbird Tyrannus dominicensis

Only seen at Buccoo Marsh, Tobago, where two were there on both 5/11 and 9/11.

Black-tailed Tityra Tityra cayana

One at Grande Riviere on 1/11 was the only sighting.

Bearded Bellbird Procnias averano

Although frequently heard calling the only sightings were of single males at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 11/11 and 12/11. Up to four birds were present here, heard calling daily from 10/11 to 12/11, and another two birds were heard from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11.

One male seen at Mount St Benedict on 4/11, ten at a lek at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and 15 there on 12/11.

Seven at Gilpin Trace on 7/11, four there on 8/11 with two on the Branch 2 Trace also on 8/11.

Golden-headed Manakin Pipra erythrocephala

Four lekking at Mount St Benedict on 4/11, with four also at Asa Wright Nature Centre on both 11/12 and 12/12.

Grey-breasted Martin Progne chalybea

Common at Mount St Benedict where 40 were seen on 30/10, 30 on 31/10 and 4 on 3/11; the only other sightings were 30 at Grande Riviere on 1/11 and 4 at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11.

White-winged Swallow Tachycineta albiventer

Five at Waterloo on 2/11 and 20 at Pointe-a-Pierre later the same day, ten at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11 and ten at Trincity Pools the same day.

Southern Rough-winged Swallow Stelgidopteryx ruficollis

One perched on wires at Heights of Aripo on 31/10 was the only sighting.

Barn Swallow Hirundo rustica

Two at Pointe-a-Pierre on 2/11, two at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11, two at Trincity Pools on 3/11 and six at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11.

Rufous-breasted Wren Thryothorus rutilus

Regular in the forested hills on Tobago, with one at Gilpin Trace on 7/11 and two the next day when there were also two at Roxborough Valley Branch Road and one on the Branch 2 Trace. Daily sightings at Asa Wright Nature Centre, which included four on both 10/11 and 12/11, were the only Trinidad records.

Tropical House Wren Troglodytes aedon

One or two at several sites: Mount St Benedict on 30/10, Grande Riviere on 1/11, the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11, Roxborough Valley Branch Road on 8/11, Branch 2 Trace the same day and Asa Wright Nature Centre on 11/11 and 12/11.

Long-billed Gnatwren Ramphocaenus melanurus

One at Mount St Benedict on 30/10 and two from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 were the only sightings.

Cocoa Thrush Turdus fumigatus

Seen only on Trinidad with one at Grande Riviere on 1/11, two at Pointe-a-Pierre on 2/11 and six from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11; particularly common at Asa Wright Nature Centre where there were ten on 10/11 and 10 the following day.

Bare-eyed Thrush Turdus nudigenys

Fairly common and widespread. Singles at Mount St Benedict on 30/10 and 31/10, 5 at Grande Riviere on 1/11, 1 from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11, four at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11. On Tobago, three at Blue Waters on 5/11, one from the Roxborough Valley Branch Road on 8/11, four on the Branch 2 Trace the same day and two at Flagstaff Hill on 9/11.

White-necked Thrush Turdus albicollis

Four on the Gilpin Trace on 7/11 with two there the following day, when there were also two on the Branch 2 Trace. One or two daily at Asa Wright Nature Centre from 10/11 to 12/11.

Tropical Mockingbird Mimus gilvus

Common. Two were seen regularly at Mount St Benedict, two at Heights of Aripo on 31/10, six at Nariva Swamp on 31/10 and one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11. On Tobago eight were at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11 and 12 at Blue Waters the same day, followed by one on the Branch 2 Trace on 8/11.

Scrub Greenlet Hylophilus flavipes

Endemic to Tobago. One was seen from the Roxborough Valley Branch Road on 8/11 and one on the Branch 2 Trace the same day.

Golden-fronted Greenlet Hylophilus aurantiifrons

Two at Mount St Benedict on 30/10 and one there the following day, one at Grande Riviere on 1/11, two from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and, at Asa Wright Nature Centre, two on 10/11 with one on 11/11.

Rufous-browed Peppershrike Cyclarhis gujanensis

Two at Grande Riviere on 1/11, two on the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 11/11 and 12/11.

Tropical Parula Parula pitiayumi

One at Grande Riviere on 1/11 and one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 11/11 were the only sightings.

Yellow Warbler Dendroica petechia

Two were seen at Mount St Benedict on both 31/10 and 3/11 and one was at Trincity Pools on 3/11.

American Redstart Setophaga ruticilla

Two seen from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and one at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11.

Northern Waterthrush Seiurus noveboracensis

The commonest North American warbler seen. Three were in the Caroni Swamp mangroves on 2/11, five seen from the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and singles at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and 11/11. On Tobago sightings were daily with two at Blue Waters and singles at various sites in the forest areas.

Golden-crowned Warbler Basileuterus culicivorus

Up to two (30/10) at Mount St Benedict, one at Grande Riviere on 1/11, two on the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and up to two (10/11) at Asa Wright Nature Centre.

Bananaquit Coereba flaveola

Common on both islands. Maximum counts were 50 at Mount St Benedict (30/10) and Grande Riviere (1/11) and 100 at Asa Wright Nature Centre (10/12) but sightings were also recorded from Heights of Aripo, Nariva Swamp, Buccoo Marsh and the forest areas on Tobago.

Six were seen in the mangroves at Caroni Swamp on 2/11.

Up to two at Mount St Benedict (31/10), 12 on the Blanchisseuse Road (4/11) and daily sightings at Asa Wright Nature Centre with 15 there on 12/11.

Quite common on Blanchisseuse Road (20 on 4/11) and Asa Wright Nature Centre where seen daily with a max of four on 12/11.

Blue-grey Tanager Thraupis episcopus

Widespread. The max was 20 at Grande Riviere on 1/11 and there were also up to 10 (30/10) at Mount St Benedict, 6 at the Agriculture Research Station (3/11) and 15 at Asa Wright Nature Centre (10/11). On Tobago the max was four on the Branch 2 Trace (8/11) but there were also sightings at Buccoo Marsh (two on 5/11), Blue Waters (2 on 9/11) and Flagstaff Hill (2 on 9/11).

Very common, especially at sites on Trinidad. 200 was the max at Mount St Benedict (30/10) and there were also 30 at Heights of Aripo (31/10), 50 at Grande Riviere (1/11), 3 at the Agriculture Research Station (3/11) and 20 at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11. The only Tobago sightings were 2 at Blue Waters on 5/11 and 6 on the Branch 2 Trace on 8/11.

Silver-beaked Tanager Ramphocelus carbo

One at Mount St Benedict on both 30/10 and 31/10, three at Grande Riviere on 1/11, 15 at Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and 6 at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11.

White-shouldered Tanager Tachyphonus luctuosus

Singles at Mount St Benedict on 30/10 and Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/11 and 11/11 were the only sightings.

White-lined Tanager Tachyphonus rufus

Up to four (30/10) at Mount St Benedict, ten on the Blanchisseuse Road on 4/11 and 20 at Asa Wright Nature Centre on 10/12 were the Trinidad sightings. On Tobago two on the Gilpin Trace (7/11 and 8/11), five on the Branch 2 Trace on 8/11 and one at Flagstaff Hill on 9/11.

Common on both islands. 80 were seen in Nariva Swamp on 31/10 and there were small numbers at various other sites on Trinidad (two at Heights of Aripo on 31/10, two at Grande Riviere on 1/11, one at ?? on 3/11, five at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11, and one at Mount St Benedict on 5/11. On Tobago, up to four at Blue Waters, from the Roxborough to Bloody Bay Road, Roxborough Valley Branch Road, Branch 2 Trace and Flagstaff Hill.

Black-faced Grassquit Tiaris bicolor

Only seen on Tobago where it proved relatively common. Two were at Blue Waters on 5/11 with 12 there on 9/11, two from the Roxborough to Bloody Bay Road on 7/11, four on the Branch 2 Trace on 8/11 and ten at Flagstaff Hill on 9/11.

Ten were seen in the Nariva Swamp area on 31/10 and 20 were at Pointe-a-Pierre on 2/11. Two were seen at the Agriculture Research Station on 3/11 with two also at Trincity Pools later the same day.

Carib Grackle Quiscalus lugubris

Two were at Grande Riviere on 1/11 and two at Waterloo on 2/11 with 60 at Caroni Swamp later the same day. On Tobago, 30 were at Buccoo Marsh on 5/11.

Shiny Cowbird Molothrus bonariensis

Seen only at Blue Waters, Tobago, where at least 50 roosted together in one tree in the hotel grounds on 5/11, and ten were seen on each of the following two days.

A max of two were seen at Mount St Benedict (30/10), with sightings thereafter at Grande Riviere (1 on 1/11), the Agriculture Research Station (2 on 3/11) and Asa Wright Nature Centre (3 on 10/11).
