Guernsey Bird Race - 4 May 2002

Weather: Sunny, moderate Southerly winds most of day. A few rain showers at dusk.

We were quite pleased with our total - 88 species, only 1 'heard only' (Cetti's) - [recorded an 89th (Garden Warbler) but not 100% sure that 3 people definitely saw it]. A decent total we thought taking into account the poor numbers of migrants around in general. Highlights were a breeding-plumaged Purple Sand with Turnstones at Fort le Crocq and a couple of Spotted Flycatchers late on in the day but there was nothing at all unusual for the time of year. Biggest dips were Brent Goose and a few not-uncommon migrants - e.g. Sedge and Garden Warblers, Whinchat.
